Class/Examination Arrangements during Bad Weather

Special arrangements will be made to classes and examinations if tropical cyclone warning, rainstorm warning or “Extreme Conditions” announcement is issued or about to be issued.  Students should take note of these arrangements and look out for notices posted on eCampus or the website of the Registry during bad weather.

The arrangements during bad weather are applicable to all classes, assignments, assessments and examinations, irrespective of the formats in which they are delivered or arranged.

Detailed arrangement for the postponed examinations will be announced by the Registry in due course.

 

 

Typical Cyclone Warning Signals / “Extreme Conditions”

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.1/ No.3 

If Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.1 or No.3 is issued, classes or examinations will continue or be held as scheduled.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.8 or above or “Extreme Conditions” Announcement

If Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.8 or above, or “Extreme Conditions” Announcement is issued/ lowered, or announcement is made by the Hong Kong Observatory that such a warning/announcement is likely to be issued within the next two hours at any time specified below, arrangements for classes and examinations will be as follows:

Between 6am and 10:29am All classes/examinations commencing before 1:30pm will be cancelled/postponed. All classes will be suspended immediately.

 

All examinations will continue unless otherwise announced by the University.

Between 10:30am and 2:59pm All classes/examinations commencing before 6pm will be cancelled/postponed.
At or after 3pm All classes/examinations commencing at or after 6pm will be cancelled/postponed.

When Signal No.8 or above or “Extreme Conditions” Announcement is lowered/ cancelled:

Before or at 6am All classes/examinations commencing on that day will be held as scheduled.
Before or at 10:30am All classes/examinations commencing at or after 1:30pm will be held as scheduled.
Before or at 3pm All classes/examinations commencing at or after 6pm will be held as scheduled.

 

 

Rainstorm Warnings

Amber/ Red Rainstorm Warning

If Amber or Red Rainstorm Warning is issued, classes or examinations will continue or be held as scheduled.

Black Rainstorm Warning

If Black Rainstorm Warning is issued/ cancelled at any time specified below, arrangements for classes and examinations will be as follows:

When Black Rainstorm Warning is in force:

Between 6am and 10:29am All classes/examinations commencing before 1:30pm will be cancelled/postponed. All classes and examinations will continue unless otherwise announced by the University. If the warning is still in force when classes/ examinations end, students are advised to stay on campus for their safety until warning has been cancelled or the weather and traffic conditions have improved.
Between10:30am and 2:59pm All classes/examinations commencing before 6pm will be cancelled/ postponed.
At or after 3pm All classes/examinations commencing at or after 6pm will be cancelled/postponed.

*Including classes or examinations commence at the time when Black Rainstorm Warning is issued, e.g. a class commences at 10:30am will continue if Black Rainstorm Warning is issued at 10:30am.

When Black Rainstorm Warning is cancelled:

Before or at 6am All classes/examinations commencing on that day will be held as scheduled.
Before or at 10:30am All classes/examinations commencing at or after 1:30pm will be held as scheduled.
Before or at 3pm All classes/examinations commencing at or after 6pm will be held as scheduled.
