1. Who are non-local students?

Students who hold the following visa / permit issued by the Director of the Immigration are defined as Non-local students:

  1. Student visa / entry permit; or
  2. Visa under the Immigration Arrangement for Non-Local Graduates; or
  3. Dependent visa / entry permit (students who were 18 years old or above when they were issued with such visa / entry permit by the Director of Immigration)

2. What is the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK)?

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) is a non-profit private liberal-arts-oriented university in Hong Kong with five Schools (Business, Communication, Decision Sciences, Humanities and Social Science, and Translation and Foreign Languages) and around 5,500 full-time students.

3. Are all programmes offered by HSUHK recognised in Hong Kong?

Yes. HSSC received the Institutional Review (IR) status from the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) in 2008, which recognised that the School has overall appropriate academic environment to operate programmes, meeting the standards of Bachelor Degree level at the QF level 5. Later, HSSC set up HSMC, which was registered under the Post-secondary College Ordinance (Cap 320), offering all degree programmes, bachelor’s and master programmes, accredited by HKCAAVQ.

5. When is the application period for undergraduate programmes?

The application period for undergraduate programmes offered in the academic year 2021-2022 is from 21 November 2020 to 31 August 2021 (local student) / 21 November 2020 to 13 June 2021 (non-local student). Early application with pending examination results at the current stage is highly encouraged as the programme(s) may stop receiving applications under different situations, e.g. the programme quota has been filled up.

6. How can I submit my application?

You can submit your application through HSUHK Undergraduate Application System (UAS).

7. How many degree programme choices do I have? Will my choice(s) other than the first choice be considered?

You are allowed to submit one application with no capped number of programme choices. All selected programme choices will be processed. Suitable applicants will be granted ONE conditional offer / confirmed offer only, according to the priority of programme choices.

8. What kind of documents should be submitted together with the application in the UAS?

The following documents need to be submitted together with the application in the UAS:

  1. Passport-size photo
  2. Copy of travel document / identity certificate (e.g. Passport)
  3. Copy of high school reports
  4. Copy of international examination result slip
  5. Copy of other academic qualification certificates
  6. Copy of English language proficiency proof

9. How can I pay the application fee?

Applicants will be informed via email of downloading the debit note after submitting the online application. You can settle the payment via one of the payment methods listed on the debit note before the due date.

10. I am a non-local student and interested in the undergraduate programmes at HSUHK. Do I need to have a certain level of Chinese language? If yes, what should I do?

It is not compulsory for non-local applicants to possess a certain level of Chinese language.

Interview Arrangement

11. When will the written test / admission interview be conducted?

Written test / admission interview will be conducted from time to time for applicants who have completed the application procedures. Eligible applicants will be notified of written test / admission interview arrangements including the date, time and venue in due course via email and SMS. Please note that applicants attending written test / admission interview on different dates in the year will be considered on the same footing for admission.

12. What should I do if I am not able to attend the written test / admission interview on the designated date and time?

If you are not able to attend the written test / admission interview, please inform us as soon as possible via email ( Alternative arrangement may be made for you if possible.

13. What is the format of the interview?

The interview format varies among programmes. Normally group / individual interviews are conducted.

In view of the COVID-19 pandemic in Hong Kong, HSUHK will invite shortlisted applicants via email and HSUHK Undergraduate Application System to conduct the online written test/interview.

14. Do all programmes require written tests and / or interviews for applicants?

Yes. Applicants must attend and pass the written test and / or interview for admission to the programmes if they are required to do so.

Eligible applicants will be notified of written test and / or interview arrangements via email and SMS. The interview format varies among programmes, normally conducted in group or individual.

15. Will non-local applicants receive any conditional offer after finishing the assessments?

Eligible non-local applicants may be given conditional offer.  Interview and/or written test performance and all documents submitted by the applicant will be taken into consideration before issuing conditional offer.

16. Will the enrolment deposit be refunded if I finally choose to enroll in another programme offered by an institution other than HSUHK?

No, the enrolment deposit is non-refundable in any cases, even if applicants are finally admitted to other programmes offered by any universities or institutions in Hong Kong.


17. Does HSUHK provide any on-campus accommodation to non-local students? How to apply?

On-campus accommodation will be guaranteed for Year 1 non-local students in their first year of study at HSUHK.  Feel free to visit the Student Affairs Office’s website ( for more details of the accommodation facilities. Year 1 non-local students need not apply for on-campus accommodation for their first year of study at HSUHK since the Student Affairs Office will be provided of the list of Year 1 non-local admittees for accommodation arrangement.

18. Are student exchange programmes / short-term study visit programmes available for HSUHK students?

Yes, HSUHK has been in collaboration with overseas institutions and those in mainland China for student exchange programmes and short-term study visit programmes with the view of broadening our students’ horizons and nurturing their global perspectives. 19. Do I need to pay the whole year tuition fee and other mandatory fees in one go?

No. There are two instalments a year. Students will be given a debit note for the required payment in due course and need to settle on or before the due date.

20. Can non-local students take up part-time or summer employment during their period of study in Hong Kong to support their living costs?

Yes. Since academic year 2008-2009, eligible non-local students i.e. those undertaking locally-accredited full-time degree programmes at undergraduate level or above, and the period of study not less than one academic year can take up part-time on-campus employment of not more than 20 hours per week. Employment during the summer vacation is also allowed without any constraint. Please visit the homepage of the Hong Kong Immigration Department for more details.

21. Can non-local students seek employment in Hong Kong after graduation?
